They wanted to add the golf at the end. «Just the rooms and the green fees,» she wrote. In other words, a Dominican Republic twin centre golf trip, with the first centre already sold.

It looked like the easiest quote of the month.

Over the next seven days she came back with four questions. None of them was about price.

Can you quote The Links? Is the transfer to the course included? Are the other two courses better? Can you move the group from the Punta Cana hotel, each with a suitcase and a golf bag?

Each one is a piece of the trip the client never sees and the operator has to have nailed down before the first deposit. There was a fifth question she didn’t ask. It’s the one the group will talk about at the nineteenth hole back home. I’ll come to it at the end.

Why a Dominican Republic twin centre golf trip sells itself

Most of the long-haul capacity into the Dominican Republic lands at Punta Cana. Your beach clients already know it. A good share of them have been, or are going.

Twin centres are nothing new to you. Beach and city, safari and coast. What changes here is the second centre: a few nights about an hour down the road, at a resort where golf is the reason for the stay rather than an activity on the hotel’s list.

The commercial logic is simple. The beach booking stays as it is. What you add is a second leg with a higher value per night, and a client who comes home with a different story from everyone else at the club who also went to Punta Cana.

There’s a costing point here too. The beach leg is usually the one your client has compared online, line by line, against every OTA. The golf leg isn’t. Nobody finds a stay&play with three Pete Dye courses, caddies, a cart per room and a hotel-to-hotel transfer with thirty-two pieces of luggage on a comparison site. That’s where your expertise shows, and where the file earns its keep.

And the timing helps. A late April trip like this one sits after the busiest weeks of the Caribbean golf season, when the group still gets dry weather and an easier run of tee times.

The Buenos Aires operator had spotted this before anyone else. Her group did not want a different destination. They wanted the golf to match the rest of the holiday.

«Is the transfer to the course included?»

It’s the question that tells you the person asking has already pictured the group on the ground, at 8am, bags at the door, working out how to reach the first tee.

At most beach resorts with a course nearby, that question opens a whole sheet: shuttle to the course, shuttle back, another one for dinner out, timings to match every tee time.

At Casa de Campo® the answer is one line. Every hotel room comes with its own four-seater golf cart. Clients drive themselves to the course, the beach club, dinner at Altos de Chavón or the marina. The driver just needs a licence.

There are no internal transfers to quote.

The ground transport for the whole second centre comes down to two lines: Punta Cana hotel to Casa de Campo®, and Casa de Campo® to the departure airport. Punta Cana airport is about 45 minutes from the resort. La Romana airport is five. The full picture is in our guide to La Romana airport and flights.

For a group of sixteen, that’s eight or ten fewer lines on the costing and as many fewer suppliers to chase when something moves.

«Are the other two courses better?»

This is the question the end client asks you, and it needs an answer in two lines that doesn’t read like a brochure. Ranking the courses doesn’t help much. Knowing which day of the trip suits each one does.

Teeth of the Dog

Pete Dye’s course on the sea, with seven holes along the Caribbean. The one your client already knows by name. Caddie compulsory. It belongs on the middle day, with the group settled and no rush in the morning. How access works is covered in this piece on playing Teeth of the Dog.

Dye Fore

Twenty-seven holes on the cliffs above the Chavón river, with drops of around 300 feet to the water. The course that surprises the player who came thinking only about Teeth. Caddie compulsory too.

The Links

Eighteen holes, inland, links-style, with the Chavón in play on five of them. Caddie optional, cart included. It’s the arrival-day course: the group rolls in from Punta Cana mid-morning, drops the bags and goes out to play without ceremony.

Put that way, the answer stops being «which is best». They are three different days of one trip. And the operator who sells it like that is no longer selling loose green fees. They’re selling a week with a shape.

Hotel to hotel, with the golf bags

«Can you add the transfers for the sixteen, travelling with a suitcase and a golf bag each?»

Sixteen people with a case and a bag each is thirty-two pieces. The standard beach transfer vehicle won’t take that, and the problem shows up on departure morning, outside the Punta Cana hotel, with the group standing there.

So this leg is quoted from the resort side, counting bags as well as heads. The right vehicle turns up and the pick-up time is set against the first tee time.

The order of the centres matters too. Golf at the end means the group leaves the beach in the morning and can be on the first tee by early afternoon. Golf at the start means the last nights are on the beach and the run back to Punta Cana airport is shorter. Both work. What doesn’t work is deciding after the flights are ticketed.

Where the golf sleeps

This one wasn’t in any of her emails, but it sat under all of them, The Links question included.

At Casa de Campo® the golf travels with the room. The nights the group plays are the nights it sleeps at the resort. So this isn’t «hotel in Punta Cana, green fees in La Romana». It’s Punta Cana for the beach and Casa de Campo® for the golf, with the bed in the same place as the tee.

That one decision sets everything else: how many nights in each centre, which days they play, which transfer goes in. Settle it first and the quote goes out in one email. Settle it last and the file goes round three times.

Inside the resort, distances between courses, beach and restaurants are short. Our Casa de Campo® resort map for agents has the exact metres.

The twin centre sheet

With these eight lines answered, the request gets quoted once and doesn’t come back with questions.

Punta Cana hotel and nights. What the client already has. Leave it alone.

Golf nights at Casa de Campo®. The nights they sleep at the resort, because those are the nights they play.

Order of the centres. Golf first or last. Decided before flights are issued.

Players and rounds. Per person. Non-golfing partners counted separately.

Course by day. The Links on arrival, Teeth of the Dog mid-trip, Dye Fore for the views.

Caddies. Compulsory on Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore. The client knows before leaving home.

Hotel to hotel transfer. Heads and pieces: one case plus one golf bag per player.

Departure airport. Punta Cana about 45 minutes from the resort, La Romana five.

And one line that isn’t on the sheet, which the Buenos Aires operator had already worked out: inside the resort, the room’s golf cart replaces every internal transfer.

The fifth question: what the group does at 2pm

I owe you the question nobody asked.

The group finishes its round early in the afternoon. They’ve played well, the sun is out, and someone says there’s still time for another nine. Or another eighteen.

On The Links and Dye Fore there is a same-day replay round. It can only be booked once the player has completed the first round, so it never appears in the original quote. It’s arranged on the spot, with the cart parked outside the clubhouse.

That isn’t a rate detail. It’s what turns a golf trip into the one the group talks about for the rest of the year: the day they played twice because they could.

And it’s the difference between adding golf to a beach holiday and adding a golf holiday to a client you already had.

Your next twin centre

If you have clients booked into Punta Cana and a set of clubs in the hold, email me at info@globalhemisphere.com with the dates and how many are playing. I’ll send back, in one email, the golf nights, the rounds split by course and the hotel-to-hotel transfer with the bags counted, ready to forward.

Free resource for travel agents

The 7-point checklist to fill a golf group

The same one I use with groups at Casa de Campo®, Madrid, Panama, Lanzarote and Playa Granada.
