\nI\u2019m a PGA Pro.
\nIn three months, I\u2019m taking 16 students on what should be the reward of the season.<\/p>\n

In reality, it feels like a public exam.<\/p>\n

I have 16 players.
\nThey are not 16 identical players.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s Mark\u00a0 Handicap 4. Plays fast. Hates waiting on the tee.
\nIf the group ahead is five minutes late, he checks his watch, exhales loudly, makes sure everyone notices.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s Tom. He\u2019s already asked me three times, \u201cIs it really worth the price?\u201d

What I never say out loud is this:
\nMy reputation isn\u2019t measured by how well I play.
\nIt\u2019s measured by how well these weeks run.<\/p>\n

If pace of play is slow, it\u2019s on me.
\nIf the course feels too hard, it\u2019s on me.
\nIf it rains, somehow, it\u2019s still on me.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s trip was excellent.
\nAlmost too good. Everything flowed. The hotel was flawless. The course playable. Beers on the terrace at sunset.<\/p>\n

Now I feel the pressure to top it.<\/p>\n

And I keep thinking: what if this one is just \u201cfine\u201d?
\nFine doesn\u2019t create enthusiasm.
\nFine creates comparison.<\/p>\n

No one will remember the flights I coordinated.
\nThe transfers. The dinner reservations.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll remember if they struggled.
\nIf they waited.
\nIf they felt the money was justified.<\/p>\n

And I know it.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why when someone says, \u201cYou\u2019ve got the best job, organizing golf trips,\u201d I smile.<\/p>\n

What I don\u2019t say is this:
\nUntil the last player says, \u201cPro, that was the best trip we\u2019ve done,\u201d
\nI don\u2019t relax.<\/p>\n

Because if something fails,
\nthey don\u2019t blame the resort.<\/p>\n

They blame me.<\/p>\n
